The Air Jordan 5 was designed by Tinker Hatfield. It came out in 1990 with three original colorways. For the shoe's look, Hatfield took inspiration from MJ's dogfight-like style, as well as from WWII fighter planes.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro SE "UNC" was put out in March 2023. The colorway pays tribute to Michael Jordan's alma mater. It features a blue suede upper with TPU eyelets and mesh. Its University of North Carolina-inspired coloring is further accented by a reflective silver tongue, speckled midsole, and icy blue outsole.
