Michael Jordan surprised the world on October 6, 1993, when he announced that he would be retiring from the NBA. He seemed to be at the pinnacle of his career, yet the finest player in the game had decided to give it up. His sudden retirement raised a lot of questions, including this significant one for Nike: how would the iconic Air Jordan line carry on?
When MJ made his decision public, the Air Jordan IX was actually already in development. In fact, designer Tinker Hatfield chose to focus on Jordan's worldwide renown this time around and used that inspiration for details like globe logos on the AJ9's heels and words in different languages on its outsoles.
The Jordan 9 originally came in four colorways and there was even a cleats version, as a nod to MJ's pivot to minor league baseball. When it was retro-ed in 2002, the Low variant of the sneaker was introduced for the first time.
With this extraordinary background in mind, illCurrency has come up with shirts printed with images based on the equally unique kicks. These on-trend tees are made from a breathable material, allowing you to shoot hoops with ease. They come in black, white, and red.
With your Jordan 9s and these matching sneaker-tees on, you'll be killing it out on the streets! Get them in the color of your choice and with whatever design catches your eye the most.
